Thank you for visiting my professional portfolio. Here you will find samples of my writing, design, and photography work—some are paid projects, others are passion projects. Browse for a bit and feel free to connect with me regarding potential freelance assignments or collaborations, or to simply say hello.
But first, let me introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Erin. I’m a coffee drinker whose intake many days could match Lorelai’s, mug for mug. I have an obsession with cats (not an exaggeration) and think very highly of my own floof, Bea (see: #BeatheKitty on Insta). Finally, I love to cheer others on. I’ve had my battles with mental health and find the best medicine for my soul is to surround myself with people and items that make me smile. My sweet spot would be in the middle of a handmade crafts market with a cup of coffee in hand and plenty of creatives to meet.
Now for the nitty-gritty details.
My Education
I hold a BA in English with a minor in history and a certificate in professional writing and rhetoric from the University of Western Ontario. I also hold a post-graduate diploma in magazine and book publishing from Centennial College and a continuing studies certificate in digital media skills from OCAD University. I admittedly miss studying.
My Employment
I currently work as digital editor for Salon Communications, where I manage the websites for Salon and Elevate, the newsletters for both publications, and all social media profiles. I won’t bore you with all of the details here, but if you would like to learn more, see my LinkedIn profile.
Prior to my current position, I held a variety of roles, writing and editing content on a broad range of topics, from personal finance to politics, music, and arts and culture. I’ve contributed to several publications on a volunteer basis in the past, always trying to improve my writing and editing skills by working with sites and print publications with very different topics, tones, and audiences. (You can see some of this work on my writing page.)
Finally, for a short stint, I interned at ECW Press, a Toronto-based independent publisher of non-fiction, poetry, and literary fiction titles that has been recognized as one of the most diversified independent publishers in North America. I loved every moment of it.
My Interests
I am a self-declared nerd with a passion for creativity and a penchant for writing. I dabble in digital and graphic design (though I’d like to start flexing my fingers a little more in the latter), as well as photography and blogging. I hold a fondness for genuine companies and organizations that are championing the rights of underprivileged groups and believe passionately in a cause to leave the world a better place, regardless of how small their impact may seem at first. (Ask me about the hummingbird story I recently heard and I’ll have you feeling inspired and in tears in no time.)
Ontario is home for me, but I have a thirst for travel that could never be quenched, whether that is to explore a Toronto neighbourhood, a rural town in Northern Ontario, the coasts of Canada, or a city across the world—I’ll take whatever adventure I can get as long as there’s coffee along the way.
